Financial Support of Sarcoma Research

For information about making a donation to support sarcoma research at the University of Minnesota, contact the development staff of either the Masonic Cancer Center or the Department of Orthopedic Surgery (David Knutson, d.knutson@mmf.umn.edu).

Funding for sarcoma research at the University of Minnesota is provided through the National Institutes of Health and the following sources:

Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Fund

The Karen Wyckoff Sarcoma Research Fund was established by Karen, shortly before her death from synovial sarcoma in August of 2001. In 2004 the Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Fund became a Minnesota non-profit foundation. It funds the Karen Wyckoff Sarcoma Research Fund, which is the primary sarcoma fund of the University of Minnesota. All proceeds from the fund are dedicated to finding a cure and educating professionals and the public about this rare and devastating cancer. Since inception it has raised over $300,000 for Sarcoma Research. For more information, visit the Karen Wyckoff Rein in Sarcoma Fund Web site.

Roby C. Thompson Chair in Musculoskeletal Oncology

The Roby C. Thompson, Jr. Chair was established to honor Dr. Thompson for his lifetime achievement in orthopaedic surgery. Generous gifts from longtime friends W. Duncan MacMillan and John M. Morrison helped create the endowment. Colleagues, proteges, friends, the Academic Health Center, and grateful patients have subsequently contributed to the chair to support research in musculoskeletal oncology.

Mairs Family Chair in Musculoskeletal Oncology

The Mairs Family Chair was established through a generous gift from George A. and Dusty Mairs in 2003. As a survivor of sarcoma after treatment by Dr. Edward Cheng and Dr. Kathryn Dusenbery, George Mairs made the endowed gift with the goal of supporting the highest level of treatment for patients in Minnesota.
